Frequently asked questions about Halfwise.

How do I restore my purchase?

Using the same Apple ID (or Google account) you bought Pro with:

  1. Open the Settings tab at the bottom.
  2. Tap Restore Purchases.

If it doesn't work, make sure you are signed in to the App Store (or Google Play) with the account you used to buy Pro, and that you are online. If that doesn't help, use the contact form below.

iCloud sync isn't working

iCloud sync is a Pro feature and is available on iOS only. Please check that:

  • Pro is active (purchased or restored).
  • Your device is signed in to iCloud (Settings > [your name]).
  • Halfwise is turned on under Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Apps Using iCloud.
  • You have free iCloud storage.
  • All your devices use the same Apple ID.
  • You are online.

Halfwise keeps working offline with the data on your device. If the same task is edited on two devices at once, the most recent edit wins.

How does the half rule work?

For importance and for urgency, the number of High tasks and Low tasks can differ by at most one. Only open tasks count; completed and deleted ones do not.

When you add a task, you choose one of four buttons: Do now (Important · Urgent), Plan (Important · Not urgent), Quick tasks (Not important · Urgent) or Later (Not important · Not urgent). Each button shows either “Room available” or “Full · swap 1”.

If you pick a full quadrant, Halfwise shows the new task next to the tasks already there and asks which one belongs in, for example “Which one is ‘Do now’?”. Tap the one that should move out, and the swap is saved in a single step. When both axes need a swap, you can often handle both at once. Right after a swap, Undo reverts it.

Completing and deleting are never blocked. If the balance drifts as a result, a banner appears at the top with the reason and a button to rebalance. Nothing opens until you tap it. Before you add a task or move one between quadrants, though, Halfwise asks you to rebalance first.

How do I change the High ratio?

With Pro, open Settings and choose the ratio under “High ratio”: Half, One third or One quarter. The same ratio applies to importance and urgency. The free version always uses Half.

Right after you change it, you may have more High tasks than the new limit allows. That doesn't block anything: use the banner at the top and tap Rebalance to choose which tasks to move. If Pro lapses, Half is used again.

What happens with an odd number of tasks?

When tasks can't split evenly, a difference of one is allowed. With five tasks, 3 High and 2 Low, or 2 High and 3 Low, are both fine. 4 High and 1 Low is not.

How do I bring back a completed task?

Right after completing, tap Undo in the message that appears.

Later, open the Completed screen (the latest 10 on Free, everything with Pro) and tap “Mark as not done” on the task. If that leaves High and Low out of balance, a banner asks you to rebalance. On Free, restoring needs Pro if you already have 10 open tasks.

I went over 10 tasks on the free version

Free allows up to 10 open tasks. If you have more, you can still view, complete and delete them. Only adding new tasks is paused until you get Pro.

I'd like a list instead of the matrix

In Settings, switch between the 2×2 matrix and a vertical list. Both are free.

Swipe gestures

Swipe a task right to complete it, left to delete it. Both happen immediately, and Undo is available right after. You can also tap the round check on the left to complete.

How do I delete my data?

Deleting the app removes the data on your device. If you used iCloud sync, see the Privacy Policy for how to delete it.
